BACK was born out of frustration and a craving for better. Founders Bart Groeneweg and Mats Backhausen, both former investment bankers, spent countless late nights at the office fuelled by the usual suspects: pizza, noodles, and takeout that left them sluggish instead of satisfied. Finding something healthy usually meant settling for a cold salad that never truly hit the spot.
During a work project in Singapore, they discovered a different world. A vibrant, fast-casual food concept serving fresh, nutritious meals made on the spot. Real food, full of flavor, designed for people on the move. It sparked an idea: why couldn’t Amsterdam have this too?
Back in the Netherlands, they traded spreadsheets for spatulas and started BACK, a fast-casual concept built on one simple belief: good food should be both fast and fulfilling. Where most “healthy” chains rely on central kitchens and reheated meals, BACK does it differently. Each location has its own professional kitchen, preparing dishes fresh every day. Guests can build their own meal or choose from chef-driven specials, all designed to be nutritious, energising, and effortlessly tasty.
What began as one kitchen in Amsterdam has grown into four thriving locations, with plans for national and international franchise expansion. But the heart of BACK remains the same: real flavour, real freshness, real people.
